When I was living in Japan in 2009, I had the privilege of meeting Issui Minegishi, and hearing her ichigenkin. Like the shakuhachi, the ichigenkin is simple and introspective – so I wanted to write for them together. This piece reflects my Kinko Ryu shakuhachi training as well as by my background and training in western music.
